Screed
The screed is the part of the floor that can be found between the
supportive floor (e.g. vaults) and flooring.
Independent of the place and demands, the bottom floor can exist of one screed
or a real sandwichlike construction. Eventually it is finished with a final layer of screed.
As bottom floors are submitted to differntial tensions, as a cause of the temperature swings
an the settlement of the carcass, it is necessary to provide insulation at the sides and
movement joints between the different spaces.
If the space is larger than 40 mē or, in one direction, longer than 8 meter, one has
to provide extra intermediate movement joints. This is also advisable at a form change in a room
(e.g. an L-shaped living room) when the finishing screed is floating (if it is applied onto
insulation plates or SCHUBO filling), it will do to pull the movement joints through the final
screed and floor finishing.
In the case of a solid screed (or a cement binded floor) the movement joint has to be pulled
through the supportive floor. In the joint, a compressible 5 mm insulation strip is provided.
The joint in the finished floor is completed with inox or brass corner profiles against which
the floor stops on every side of the joint. The joint between two profiles is kit off with a
flexible staying kit.
